Central West End

Many of our residents, fellows, and students live and play in the Central West End, the neighborhood just north of the medical campus. The CWE is bounded by Kingshighway and Union Boulevard to the west, Delmar to the north, Vandeventer to the East, and I-64 to the south, and is one of the most beautiful and vibrant neighborhoods in the city. It has a variety of dining and nightlife options and provides every amenity you could need, with 20+ restaurants and bars, a grocery store, a movie theater, multiple banks, dry cleaners, salons, gyms and specialty shops. Housing is abundant with many charming century old single and multiple family houses, condos, and 16 apartment buildings from which to choose. It's also a great place for visitors, as one of St. Louis's premiere hotels, the Chase Park Plaza is located in the CWE, as well as lower-key options including the Parkway Hotel , adjacent to the medical campus, and a Comfort Inn.

There's always something happening in the CWE. Residents regularly grab lunch or dinner at the new Central Table Food Hall or the other dozen-plus restaurants located within blocks of the medical campus (including tacos, pizza, sushi, Indian, and Chinese food and delis). You can always find someone to grab a drink with outside at Wildflower or Taste, to watch the game with at Lester's Sports Bar or Bar Louie, or indulge in cupcakes and coffee at the Cup. Because of the high concentration of restaurants, bars, and cafes in the neighborhood, the CWE is bustling day and night. In addition to providing multitudes of entertainment options, living in the CWE also allows for an easy walk to work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and provides good public transportation, as the CWE Metrolink stop is the busiest in the area.
