Dr. Goodwin became an instructor
in 1968 after completing his residency in the Department. He became assistant
professor in 1969, associate professor in 1972, and professor in 1974. He
published widely and was a leading authority on the topic of alcoholism. Among his many publications, he was a
coauthor (with Drs. Woodruff and Guze) of the classic book Psychiatric
Diagnosis (Oxford Press,
1974). He became chair of psychiatry at
the University of Kansas in 1976.
