Research Interventions in Anorexia Nervosa (RIAN)

No longer recruiting

Washington University, along with 5 other sites across North America, participated in the largest National Institute of Mental Health sponsored study for adolescents with anorexia nervosa. Families who qualified were randomly assigned to participate in one of the two therapies: Behavioral Family Therapy or Systems Family Therapy. Family therapy consisted of 16 one-hour sessions over the course of nine months. In addition, psychiatric monitoring and blood chemistry/laboratory testing were provided at regular intervals over the nine months. Follow-up assessments were administered at the end of family therapy, six months, and twelve months after the completion of family therapy.
