R. Robinson Welch, Ph.D., CGP
Dr. Welch is a licensed psychologist in Missouri and assistant professor in psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Welch received his degree in counseling psychology (1988) from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and completed his pre-doctoral internship (1984-86) at the University of Missouri-Columbia counseling services. Dr. Welch has held academic appointments at Yale University, San Diego State University, and Washington University in St. Louis. For the last decade, Dr. Welch's clinical and research work has focused on identifying and implementing effective treatments for eating disorders and obesity. For example, in the context of two large NIH funded studies, Dr. Welch has treated overweight adults with binge eating disorder with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) and has treated overweight children and their overweight parents with family-based behavioral interventions. Dr. Welch has published several papers in the area of eating and weight disorders and a book on interpersonal psychotherapy for group. He is a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and is a Certified Group Psychotherapist.
